My Book in the Local Library

I had a pleasant surprise when visiting my local library last week. Just inside the entrance there is a stand with recent additions. I saw that my book, "Unpacking Italy: passions of a traveller", had pride of place among other items on its stand.
I had donated an author's copy to the library and it was good to see that they had given it immediate publicity, perhaps because it was written by a local author. I noted with interest that they had given it a Dewey number 914.5. It'[s good to know where my book fits.
A library is a good place for entering into other worlds. I am a member of two, my local library where my book resides and a major theological library. My book is an invitation to readers to enter one of those world's a library offers. I happen to think that it is one of the special worlds. That's how Italy captures me. It is a multi-faceted, multi-cultured, multi-languaged world that, it seems to me, can never be exhausted for interest.
It leaves me thinking that I have contributed to our local community by having the book and its world there on the shelves for their pleasure. Perhaps, more fundamentally, that is one of the blessings of writing. There is a world known by the author to share. Yes, writing is deeply satisfying and is a contributory skill.
Enjoy my world of Italy.
